Multisensory solutions for reading.

Orton Gillingham Reading Intervention

EVERYONE CAN BE AN EFFECTIVE MULTISENSORY TEACHER

Since 1997, we have helped more than 2,500 school districts improve reading scores by providing Orton-Gillingham based multisensory tools and training to educators working with struggling students

A HIGHLY EFFECTIVE METHOD – WE MADE IT EASY

The Orton Gillingham method has been used with struggling readers for almost 100 years. It is one of the most widely studied, effective methodologies used today. Our goal when we built the program was to keep intact the methods while improving usability. We took the experience of an Orton Gillingham trained expert who has used the method for 35 years and worked with her to build a program that anyone can use to be an effective Orton Gillingham teacher. We built the Sonday System.

Why Your School District Should Choose The Sonday System®

Since 1997, we have helped more than 1,800 school districts improve reading scores by providing Orton-Gillingham based multisensory tools and training to educators working with struggling students.

The Sonday System Incorporates the Characteristics of Structured Literacy. Research shows that a structured literacy approach helps students with reading difficulties. The International Dyslexia Association (IDA) compiled the research results that identified the characteristics of structured literacy.

HIGHLY EFFECTIVE METHOD

The Orton Gillingham method has been used with struggling readers for almost 100 years. It is also the standard for state law compliance.

ANYONE CAN TEACH THE PROGRAM

Today, more than 40,000 educators in schools around the country are using the Sonday System to get students caught up to their peers.

“When reading and spelling are taught together, progress is faster, learning is more secure, and the learner becomes a writer as well as a reader. Spelling is the magic that locks learning into long-term memory. It offers an opportunity for kinesthetic/tactile practice through tracing and writing and it provides immediate diagnostic information regarding which sounds, rules and concepts have been learned. Short-term memory difficulties disappear and success is assured.”

Orton-Gillingham Based Programs:

Winsor Learning provides Orton-Gillingham Sonday System Programs and Training. Educational experts at industry leading organizations such as the National Center for Learning Disabilities and the International Dyslexia Association have evaluated the Sonday System® and deemed that the program contained the required elements for teaching reading identified by the Nation Reading Panel. Winsor Learning believes in giving children their best chance to succeed in school. We’ve partnered with one of the country’s foremost experts in the Orton-Gillingham multisensory method for reading intervention to create the Sonday System, a simple, cost-effective tool for K-12 educators to identify and quickly intervene with struggling readers.

ANYONE – NO REALLY – ANYONE CAN DO IT

Today, more than 40,000 educators in schools around the country are using the Sonday System to get students caught up to their peers. In many of our sites, educators who have little background knowledge in reading have been able to improve student scores. ParaEducators, Parents, Art Teachers, Athletic Coaches, Shop Teachers and even Teen Tutors have used our program to help students catch up to their peers.

When a student is falling behind in reading, time matters. We created the Sonday System with Orton-Gillingham expert, Arlene Sonday, to create a powerful tool that preserves the widely studied and proven Orton-Gillingham method while improving its usability and accessibility. The Sonday System is the only tool that gives anyone – from experienced reading educators to volunteer tutors – the opportunity to identify, intervene and help struggling students catch up with their peers using effective multisensory instruction.

30 YEARS OF FIELD WORK IN ORTON GILLINGHAM

Our author, Arlene Sonday, was one of the first Orton-Gillingham fellows and was the first President of the Orton-Gillingham Academy of Practitioners and Educators. In 2009, the International Dyslexia Association presented her with the Margaret Byrd Lifetime Achievement Award. For over 30 years she worked in schools and homes and helped thousands of students improve their reading, writing and spelling using Orton-Gillingham methods. Her years of field work informed how she designed the Sonday System. She knew what worked. She used all that experience to design a program that is easy to use for anyone willing to tutor a student. After six decades of work, she still trains and answers educator questions today.
